Le Bete du Gevaudan

Watercolour and Ink

April 2021

‘Le Bete du Gevaudan’ or’ The Beast of Gevaudan’ is a painting based on the true events of a mysterious man-eating beast that terrorized rural France between 1764 and 1767, it killed and ate over one hundred people in that time and the King of France sent his best hunters to slay the beast. The story still captivates people to this day and has even been turned into a successful blockbuster movie ‘Brotherhood of the Wolf’’ I myself was luckily enough to see production of this at the ‘Jim Hensons’ creature shop and also visited the area it happened in France which still has statues of the beast.
