I had been wanting to paint an owl for a long time, but I have done so many forest illustrations recently I wanted to give it a different setting. The desert scene came to me watching a travel show where they visited Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, these countries had beautiful architecture and stunning desert vistas and the idea was born, a Great desert owl.
